‘Tigerish Waters’ Casting
Congratulations to Medbh Mc Closkey (3rd Year) and Maeve Liston (TY) who have been cast in the two main roles in ‘Tigerish Waters’, a short film, written by Soinbhe Lally (Rossnowlagh) and directed by Lucy Campbell, which will be shot mainly in Rossnowlagh in March. Other members of the cast come from Transition Year: Thomas Beaumont, Patrick Gallagher, Megan Dorrian, Hannah Kane, Lorcan Feeney, Megan Lawlor and Grainne Gillespie. Students from TY with an interest in film production will also have the opportunity to be involved on the set at the time of shooting, tying in with their Digital Media/Film Production course. A number of students from Magh Ene, Bundoran, will also be involved.
Hairspray!
The final performance of Hairspray is upon us. After months of preparation the first three nights of the show have bend played to packed houses and standing ovations. All the hard work and dedication has come to fruition. While it is largely a whole school endeavour, the two TY classes form the backbone of the production. Every member of the year has been involved whether that’s been in set building, painting, hall management, stage crew and indeed some of the lead roles on stage. It has been a fantastic experience for all involved. Well done to everyone. Check out the Hairspray page for photos of the night.

Girls Under-16 Basketball
On Monday 21st, CCBS defeated Ursuline Sligo’s U-16 Girls Basketball team. This was a great achievement as CCBS had already been beaten twice this year by the same team in the All-Ireland Cup and North West League campaign. The girls started brightly and rushed into an early lead and led 1-5 after the first quarter. However Ursuline fought back only allowing CCBS to score one point in the second quarter. The score at half-time was CCBS 11 – Ursuline 14. The third quarter was very exciting and also very open as both teams managed to score with some impressive offensive play. CCBS were three points behind going into the last quarter and were without two of their best players as both Cliodhna Kerr and Maever Liston were fouled off. However, they defended very well and Claudia Coughlin was exceptional as she scored 12 points in the last quarter. The final score was CCBS 33 – Ursuline 29.
A Diverse Week of Education and Culture Ahead for TYs

On Wednesday, some TY students will travel to St. Angela’s College, Sligo, take part in microteaching. This is used by students of St. Angela’s as part of their teaching proactive. On Friday December 2nd, TY French students will visit the Abbey Centre to view a French film called ‘Lights Out’ as part of a one day French film festival.
Final Touches to ‘Hairspray’
As we come closer to the first performance of ‘Hairspray’ (The Mercy Hall, Wed 23rd – Sat 26th), the cast are giving up what seems like every spare minute for rehearsals, but the production crew are working just as hard to create the perfect stage and set. A huge amount of time and effort has been put in by a number of students to make sure everything looks great on the night. A core group of creative and talented students have been busy designing and painting the set: Amy Christie, Kornelija Norkeviciute, Paul McLean, Tristan Duffy, Jamie McDonald, Grainne Mc Gonigle, Ciara Keon and Clare Toolan. Carpenters Aaron Fee, Kevin Warnock, Colm Kelly and David McGurrin have put in tremendous effort to put the final touches to the stage.
It promises to be fantastic show. Make sure to book your tickets early by calling into the school every lunchtime or by calling the school on 071 98 58 288.

Irish Science Junior Olympiad
On Saturday 5th of November, Bríd Roberts (TY) and Neil Shanley (5th Year), travelled to DCU to take part in the Irish Junior Science Olympiad. Both were on the list of 185 finalists. Finalists were chosen based on results of their Junior Cert. Finalists had to be born on or after the 1st January 1996 and have received at least 6 “A”s in the exams, including one in Maths and Science. On the day they had to take a multiple choice test in a lecture hall in DCU, which involved questions on Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths. Finalists were allotted three hours to complete the test. A few hours later, they were called back into the lecture hall to be awarded with certificates, saying they had participated in the competition. 6 students out of the group received silver and gold medals and three received bronze medals. The students who earned silver and gold medals are now on the Irish team and will represent Ireland in the International Junior Science Olympiad. They leave for South Africa on the 1st December and will stay for ten days. The bronze medallists are in reserve, and will step up if one of the team is unable to compete.
To even be selected as a finalist is a big honour as there are so few in the country, so even though our own Coláiste Cholmcille students don’t progress in the competition, it proved to be a fantastic experience!

Concern Debates – Hands Down Win!
Margaret Ward, Thomas Beaumont, Rachel Mc Nulty and Áine Kavanagh were representing the school on Tuesday night in the Railway Hotel, Enniskillen. They were proposing the motion “Aid to the Developing World is a luxury Ireland cannot afford ” against St. Pat’s of Cavan. They definitely did us proud! We won the debate 2 votes to 1. They all came across really well on the night and refuted the Cavan team every time they tried to prove us wrong. The other team tried their best and had some excellent and relevant points but without a doubt we presented the stronger argument. They kept thanking the audience for “tolerating” our points and arguments but in the end, it turned out to be the other way around. It was a great start to the qualifying rounds for us and a fantastic confidence boost – bring on round 2!!!!!!
