Second year class 2.3 held a Monster Cake Sale today to raise funds for the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary as part of their CSPE Action Project with Miss C. Gallagher. It was a great success, with all the cakes selling out like, well, hot cakes! The Donegal Donkey Sanctuary in Raphoe cares for abandoned or mistreated donkeys. This ties in with the class’s CSPE Project on Animal Rights.

CCBS Students Vs Staff Basketball

CCBS Staff and Senior Students played a ‘friendly’ match of basketball on Friday evening, as part of the farewell party for Miss O’Malley. The game was a lot of fun for all involved, especially with the addition of boxing gloves and the surprise appearance of referees Buzz Lightyear, Darth Vader and Turkey Murphy. After the game a number of students representing different groups  in the school (Transtition Years, First and Second Year Basketball teams, the Junior and Seniour Basketball teams) made speeches thanking Miss O’Malley for her work and commitment over the years, and presented her with a number of mementos of her time at CCBS. More photos can be seen on the Photos page of the website (a link takes you to the CCBS Album on Picasa).

Second Year Girls win 2 at All-Ireland Playoffs

Second Year Girls Basketball Team – NW Regional Champions 2012!!

The CCBS Second Year Girls Basketball team performed brilliantly at the All-Ireland Playoffs which took place in Castleblaney on Saturday, but were ultimately knocked out of the competition. They defeated the teams from Castleblaney and Salerno (Galway) secondary schools, but were defeated by Templemore, who won with a mere 5 baskets. Despite being knocked out of the competition, the girls performed brilliantly and show great  promise for the future. The team was accompanied by Miss Mc Grath and Miss O’Malley (on loan from Ballygar for the weekend!).

‘Little Miss Muffin’ come second in Young Entrepreneurship Awards

Ria and Aoibhinn with their trophy and a packet of 'Little Miss Muffin' mix

Well done to two CCBS entrepreneurs, Ria and Aoibhinn Gallagher, who travelled to Dublin along with Maura Gallagher from NYP to collect their award for second place at the Foroige Youth Entrepreneurship awards last Thursday. Their company, called ‘Little Miss Muffin’, develops dry mixes for cookies. The girls developed their idea for their company and the products in the NYP centre in Ballyshannon with Maura Gallagher, their NYP tutor.

Agricultural Science interviews take place this week, along with the Irish Orals and the Junior Cert Music Practicals. Students are advised to take note of their appointed times on the appropriate noticeboards.

CCBS Success at Donegal Track and Field

After their success at the Donegal Track and Field competition in Donegal last week, it’s not hard to imagine the CCBS Athletes competing in the Olympics in future years! Oisin Sheerin came first in the 100 metres and second in the 200 metres. In the Shott Putt, Aimee Oates came third in the girls competition, and Oisin Rooney came third in the boys. Ruby Hurst came 4th in the 800 metres, and 4th in the Girls Relay, both fantastic achievements. The Second Year students brought home a number of medals as well. Eva Mc Mullin came first in the Girls 100 metres, first in the Girls 200 metres and second in the Long Jump. Colm Doyle was first in the Shott Putt and the Long Jump. Calum O’Halloran got second place in the 100 metres and third in the 200 metres. Overall, this was a fantastic day for the CCBS team, and bears testimony to all their hard work with their coach, Miss O’Donnell.

Goodbye Miss O’Malley, and good luck in Galway

Miss O'Malley and the Junior Girls Basketball Team

Miss O’Malley blew the final whistle on Colaiste Cholmcille on Friday, March 31st, as she left the basketball courts and sports fields of CCBS for the Principal’s office in Colaiste Mhuire, Ballygar, Co. Galway. After seven years of dedication to all aspects of school life here, from her own PE classes to coaching teams, managing the musical, and including her tenure as Transition Year Coordinator, Miss O’Malley is returning to her old secondary school in Ballygar to take up the position of principal. She will be sorely missed by students and staff here at CCBS, but we wish her all the best in her new job.
